I would be interested to know if there are any opinions regarding this form of income tax mitigation planning?

You would probably be better off asking about this on another tax discussion forum, such as taxationweb or accoutingweb. Anyway, remuneration trusts (or EBTs) only really now work for CGT/IHT mitigation re company shares and do not really work re profit extraction planning from companies (CT & income tax mitigation), although I know of such planning that still purportedly works involving EBTs even after the GAAR, but this is only for the bold in my view and you should only deal with someone who is regulated by a professional body (such as a lawyer or chartered accountant with a practicing certificate and whose firm is regulated by the SRA or ICAEW) to avoid potential penalties for negligence etc. as there are a lot of unregulated cowboy tax advisers out there peddling EBT based schemes.
